Imax inks 3D deal with Samsung America

Imax's 'Deep,' 'Galapagos' to be included in 3D TV rollout

TORONTO -- Imax is dipping its toes into in-home 3D entertainment by licensing its brand and two of its 3D library titles to Samsung Electronics America for the manufacturer's 3D TV rollout.

The marketing pact will see Imax license limited use of its trademark and 3D Blu-ray versions of "Into the Deep" and "Galapagos" to Samsung over the next year for use by new buyers of its 3D TV sets or 3D Blu-ray devices.

"Imax remains focused on partnering with the best companies in the world to help us further extend our brand, establish our presence in the home and capitalize on our premium content, and we believe Samsung will be an strong strategic marketing partner in these efforts," Richard Gelfond, CEO of Imax, said in a statement.

Imax earlier pacted with Sony and Discovery Networks on a future 3D TV channel rollout.
