Imax to Release Scarlett Johansson-Starrer 'Lucy' Internationally From August 8
The giant screen exhibitor is keeping to the original release date for the Luc Besson action thriller after Universal Pictures moved up the domestic release to July 25.
KARLOVY VARY -- Fanboys are set to get a supersize look at a fierce Scarlett Johansson after Imax pacted with Universal Pictures and EuropaCorp to release Luc Besson's action thriller Lucy in select international territories from Aug. 8.
Imax had earlier success with Days to Kill, which Besson co-wrote, and now will digitally re-master Lucy, which also stars Morgan Freeman, for the big-screen release.
To capture Johansson's explosive action, select scenes in Lucy were shot using Imax's high-resolution cameras.
"Luc Besson is one of the most gifted creators of onscreen heroines in cinema history, and Scarlett Johansson is a favorite of Imax audiences around the world," Greg Foster, senior executive vp at Imax Corp. and CEO of Imax Entertainment, said Tuesday in a statement.
Universal earlier moved up the North American release of Lucy to July 25, after it was originally set for an Aug. 8 domestic rollout.
