Imax to Screen Bollywood Remake 'Bang Bang!' in India
The supersized action thriller starring Hrithik Roshan will play from Oct. 2
Imax is to release the Bollywood remake Bang Bang! on its screens in India and internationally, the giant screen exhibitor said Wednesday.
Imax has digitally supersized the Siddharth Raj Anand-directed action-thriller for a release starting this Friday. Fox Star Studios is releasing Bang Bang! on 4,000 screens in India and just over 250 screens in the U.S., making it the widest Bollywood film release ever.
The Bang Bang! remake is the second Indian local language movie to screen in Imax theaters after Dhoom:3 in 2013. The film stars Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif and is a remake of Fox's Knight and Day, which starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
"India has such a vibrant local film industry, and with Fox Star Studios having a commanding presence there already, we're excited to become a larger part of the Bollywood moviegoing culture," Greg Foster, senior executive vp of Imax Corp. and CEO of Imax Entertainment, said Wednesday in a statement.
Imax in recent years has increased the number of local language movies it screens as it grows its business in emerging markets like China, India and Russia.
