Imax Signs First Commercial Theater Deal in Scandinavia
TORONTO -- Imax has pacted with Nordic Cinema Group to launch a theater screen at a new multiplex in Sweden.
The deal for the giant screen theater to anchor the SF Bio multiplex in Stockholm, set to open in fall 2015, marks the first commercial screen for Imax in Scandinavia as it continues expanding in Europe.
The giant screen exhibitor already has an institutional screen in the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.
"This is an ideal scenario for our first commercial entry into Scandinavia and together with Nordic Cinema Group we look forward to expanding our network in this important growth market," Andrew Cripps, president of Imax EMEA, said in a statement Thursday.
The SF Bio multiplex in Stockholm's Mall of Scandinavia will become an anchor theater for Imax, similar to the Empire theater in London's Leicester Square and the CineStar Sony Center venue at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.
Nordic Cinema Group owns and operates 590 screens via cinema chain brands like SF Bio in Sweden, Finnkino in Finland, SF Kino in Norway and Forum Cinemas in the Baltics.
