Imax taps international film development exec
Ex-UIP exec Anthony Vogels to expand o'seas film biz reachTORONTO -- Imax Corp. has hired former United International Pictures executive Anthony Vogels as vp international film development, charged with expanding the giant-screen exhibitor’s overseas film business reach.
Los Angeles-based Vogels comes to the newly created position from movie distributor United International Pictures, where he spent 15 years in various executive posts, including general manager in Thailand and a key account manager in Australia.
He joins Imax as it continues to expand overseas, especially into the Asian market with local-language, digitally remastered films.
Toronto-based Imax earlier partnered with China’s Huayi Bros. studio to release three Chinese-language commercial movies, starting with “Aftershock” this summer.
Australian-born Vogels will report to Greg Foster, Imax filmed entertainment chairman and president.
