'Incendies' Cleans Up at Jutras
Denis Villeneuve follows up dominance of the Genies with major wins at Quebec film awards.
TORONTO – Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies cleaned up at the Jutras, the Quebec film awards, taking nine trophies, including best film, director and screenplay.
Incendies lead actress Lubna Azabal also earned the best actress trophy at the 13th annual Jutras, which were handed out on the weekend in Montreal, while the film’s Andre Turpin won for best cinematography.
The Oscar-nominated Incendies also picked up trophies for art direction, sound, costumes and editing.
The French language drama about a mother who hides tragic secrets her two children must uncover in the Middle East came into the Jutras with a field-leading ten nominations.
Villeneuve last week also dominated the Genies, Canada’s film awards, by taking eight trophies, including best film and director.
The Jutra for best actor went to Claude Legault for his star turn in Daniel Grou’s 10 ½, while the best supporting actress prize was picked up by Dorothee Berryman for Cabotins, and the best supporting actor trophy went to Jean Lapointe for A l'origine d'un cri.
The best documentary Jutra went to Pierre Falardeau by Carmen Garcia and German Gutierrez.
