'Incendies' Among Selections to Screen at New Directors/New Films Fest
The event's 40th anniversary will also showcase Canada's 'Curling' and 'Winter Vacation' from China.
Denis Villeneuve's Incendies, which is on the short list for consideration for this year's foreign-language film Oscar, is among the first six films that have been selected to screen at the 2011 New Directors/New Films Film Festival in New York.
The other selections are Pia Marais' At Ellen's Age, from Germany; Denis Cote's Curling, from Canada; Bogdan George Apetri's Outbound (Periferic), from Romania; Nicolas Pereda's Summer of Goliath (Verano de Goliat) from Mexico; and Hongqi Li's Winter Vacation (Han jia) from China.
The fest, celebrating its 40th anniversary, is produced by the Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
"These first six selections are indicative of the great variety of films and the worldwide scope for which New Directors/New Films has long been known and respected. Each of these filmmakers has demonstrated a remarkable gift for storytelling and we are thrilled to bring their work to New York audiences," Rajendra Roy, the Celeste Bartos Chief Curator at MoMA's department of film said.
