Independent Spirit Awards: Jared Leto Thanks Everyone in Acceptance Speech
"In case this is the last time I get to thank anyone, I wrote down a couple names," the actor said, before heaping praise on a list of people including Wayne Gretzky, the inventor of the zipper and "the makers of vegan butter."
Dallas Buyers Club star Jared Leto was honored on Saturday with the best supporting actor nod at the Independent Spirit Awards -- and made the most of his acceptance speech.
"In case this is the last time I get to thank anyone, I wrote down a couple names," he began. In his remarks, the actor heaped praise on everyone from Wayne Gretzky to the inventor of the zipper to "the makers of vegan butter."
Remarking on his co-star Matthew McConaughey's ascendant career of late, he joked, "After Dallas Buyers Club, I'm gonna pull an opposite McConnaisance and just do romantic comedies."
The actor, who portrayed the transgender character Rayon in the Jean-Marc Vallee-directed drama, also quipped about fellow Oscar nominees Bruce Dern (Nebraska) and Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave).
"I want to thank all the women I've been with and all the women who think they've been with me … and my future ex-wife, Lupita," Leto said.
He also gave a shout-out to "the youngest and most inspired man in the room," the 77-year-old Dern.
Dallas Buyers Club is nominated for two awards at the Independent Spirit Awards, held in Santa Monica on Saturday. The ceremony will be broadcast on IFC at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
