India tops Asia promo awards
EmptySINGAPORE -- India's promo-makers and designers swept this year's PromaxlBDA Asia Awards, handed out at Thursday at a ceremony in Singapore at the end of the annual two-day event.
Sixteen of the 30 Promax Muse Gold Awards handed out went to Indian channels, which also took 16 silver awards.
Entries were up 20% this year, with 1,300 from 113 different companies, PromaxlBDA Asia director Monica Wong said.
Sony's SET India SAB channel took the most gold, with three awards (best entertainment/variety promo, best entertainment/variety campaign and best sound design). Sister channel SET India Max won two (best out-of-house station image promo and best special event promo), giving the Mumbai-based SET group a total of five gold awards.
SET India also dominated the silver list, with nine awards, including three for channel SET Max movies and events, two for film channel Pix, two for its SAB general entertainment service and two SET India awards.
Other gold winners from India were Star India's Channel (V), Star India, Star News, Sahara One's Filmy film channel, Toon Disney India, MTV India, Zee Telefilms and TV18.
The other 14 gold awards were split across regional and local channels and pay TV platforms based in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
National Geographic Channel won three (best documentary promo, best sales and marketing presentation and best promo not using program footage). Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks, which operates all-action channel AXN and anime channel Animax, and News Corp.-ESPN joint venture ESPN Star Sports, took two gold awards each.
Single gold winners were Malaysia's direct-broadcast satellite platform Astro for its World Cup Campaign (best sports campaign), the Star Group, Nickelodeon, MediaCorp Singapore, Turner, HBO Asia and Singapore's StarHub.
MTV Asia dominated the BDA design awards, with five of the 10 Gold Isis statuettes, including one from the MTV India team. Star India's Channel (V) took three BDA golds.
Four hundred promotion, design and marketing executives from across the region attended the two-day event.
