Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles Announces Opening, Closing Films

Shlok Sharma's 'Haraamkhor' will kick off the festival April 8.

Shlok Sharma’s Haraamkhor has been selected to screen s the opening night film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, which runs from April 8-12 at the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood.

A world premiere, Sharma’s feature debut was produced by Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur) and Guneet Monga (The Lunchbox) and stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a teacher having an illicit affair with one of his students.

The U.S. premiere of Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dhanak (Rainbow), which follows a brother and sister on a journey across Rajasthan in an attempt to meet the Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, will close the festival.

“We’re thrilled to kick off our thirteenth edition with the world premiere of Haraamkor. Shlok's film resonates to something we all can understand — the beautiful complications of youth. It invigorates us to have a filmmaker return to IFFLA, and especially so when their first feature is as powerful as this,” IFFLA artistic director Jasmine Jaisinghani said.

Nirvana-Bombay Palace will host the opening and closing night gala receptions in Beverly Hills.
