India's Toonz Entertainment has agreed to acquire Spain's Imira Entertainment, a producer-distributor of kids content.

Imira is behind such series as Sandra the Fairytale Detective and Lucky Fred. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Toonz Entertainment, which also owns L.A.-based distribution division Toonz Entertainment LLC USA, will take full ownership of Imira, subject to due diligence.

Established in 1999, the Toonz studios are located in an 18,000 square foot facility in the south Indian state of Kerala. Toonz has worked with various partners, such as Disney, Turner Broadcasting, Sony, the BBC, Marvel and Nicktoons. Some of the projects Toonz has worked on include Indian series The Adventures of Tenali Raman and Hanuman. International projects include animated series Wolverine and the X-Men and Speed Racer, among others.

Barcelona-based Imira will continue to operate as a separate entity with its existing management structure, but the teams from the two companies will now work together on production and distribution, Toonz said.

Imira will handle television and licensing rights for Toonz Animation-produced content in Europe, the US, Latin America and Africa. Imira already distributes a catalogue of over 4,000 half hours of children’s programming, shopping series such as Scholastic’s Goosebumps, Horrible Histories and The Magical School Bus, as well as its original series.
