IndiePix Takes Elif Refig's 'Ships'
The distributor is planning a fall art house release for the Turkish film.
IndiePix Films has acquired all domestic and international rights to Turkish filmmaker Elif Refig’s Ships (Ferahfeza), which premiered at the 2012 Istanbul Film Festival. Ships won a FIPRESCI Award and a special jury prize at the 2013 European Film Festival.
The distributor is planning a limited art house release in the fall, followed by a domestic home entertainment and digital release in early 2015 and also will offer the film in select international markets through IndiePix-related channels.
The film follows a young shipyard worker (Ugur Uzunel), who teams up with a graffiti artist (M. Sitare Akbas) for an adventure in Turkey’s industrial port cities.
The deal was negotiated by Refig and Jordan Mattos, director of programming at IndiePix Films.
