The popular photo-sharing app is making it easier for people to discover new content through a redesigned "Explore" page and an improved search engine.

Instagram wants to make it easier for its more than 300 million users to discover new photos and videos, so the Facebook-owned app has redesigned its "Explore" page and added improve search functionalities to do just that.

A new version of the popular photo-sharing app — dubbed Instagram 7.0 — rolls out Tuesday with these updates.

Among the biggest changes to the app is the new Explore page that surfaces trends in real time by showing users top trending tags and places (for example, #FathersDay or #Bonnaroo). The Explore page will now feature frequently updated collections of photos and videos curated by Instagram that will feature notable accounts or places. For example, a collection might showcase interesting world architecture or extreme athletes to follow.

Instagram also has improved its search feature, adding a "places" search function that will allow people to see the photos being taken at locations around the world. In addition, a feature called "Top Search" will allow people to find photos across the categories of people, places and tags — all at once.

"With more than 70 million photos and videos posted to Instagram every day, wherever something is happening, chances are you can see it here," wrote the company in a blog post on Tuesday. "Whether it's behind the scenes at the NBA Finals, the latest fashion trend or just catching a favorite band at a local club, people are capturing moments large and small on Instagram. But, until now, there's never been an easy way to find these moments."

The Explore updates will be available beginning Tuesday in the United States and will roll out to other countries in the future.
