Sony Pictures Television International said Tuesday that Janet Tsai Dargan has been upped to senior vp business development.

She will be in charge of strategic planning and new business initiatives for SPTI's distribution, international networks and international production.

Dargan's primary focus is to identify new opportunities to expand SPTI's international networks portfolio, including the launches of new networks and the acquisition of existing channels as well as the acquisition of local production companies worldwide. She also oversees business development teams in Los Angeles, London and Hong Kong.

"Her contributions to SPTI's channels strategies in India and Russia as well as our recent offer to acquire 2waytraffic, the European entertainment company, have made her a key player in the expansion of our business," said Christoph Pachler, senior vp and CFO of SPTI.

John Calkins, executive vp corporate development at Sony Pictures Entertainment, joined in the announcement.

Based at SPTI's headquarters in Culver City, Dargan joined SPTI in 2005 as a vp. She has held vp business positions at Universal Studios and Paramount Pictures.
