Now this is a reality competition
EmptyTalk about a wipeout: June 24 is shaping up to be a perfect storm of summer reality programming.
Up until last week, the date was merely notable for staging a face-off between Week 2 of NBC's top-rated summer series "America's Got Talent" and the premiere of ABC's new reality show "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" — whose lead-in is the premiere of obstacle course reality competition "Wipeout."
Then, last week, Fox decided it wasn't going to chance either network stealing Tuesday night, which Fox has dominated this summer with "The Moment of Truth" and "Hell's Kitchen."
Fox yanked the lower-rated of its duo, "Truth," from 8 p.m. and scheduled its strongest possible show in its place: another episode of "Kitchen," which so far has been the summer's highest-rated series.
Now NBC is sending in backup: The network said Friday that it will move up its premiere of "Celebrity Family Feud" to June 24 at 8 p.m., which should increase the number of viewers fed into "Talent."
To recap: That's the premiere of NBC's "Feud" vs. the premiere of ABC's "Wipeout" vs. Fox's top-rated "Kitchen" at 8 p.m. Then Week 2 of NBC's top-rated "Talent" vs. the premiere of ABC's "Japanese Game Show" vs. another of Fox's "Kitchen" at 9 p.m.
The biggest question mark in the bunch is "Wipeout," which industry insiders say has the best shot at being a breakout new show during this ratings-challenged post-strike summer. (partialdiff)
ABC has been promoting "Wipeout" during its presentation of the NBA Finals, but the jury is still out on whether viewers will tune in for a show that combines "America's Funniest Home Videos" with "Most Extreme Elimination." (partialdiff)
