Exclusive: This Is How Isabel and Ruben Toledo Did the Tonys (Photos)
From her morning face mask to afterparty No. 2, the prolific fashion illustrator snapped pics of his Best Costume Design-nominated wife on Tonys Day. And the results are kind of adorable.
There are few fashion power couples as prolific as Isabel and Ruben Toledo -- she, the former creative director of Anne Klein and helmer of her own masterful label -- and he her most steadfast collaborator, whose whimsically sophisticated style sketches have been commissioned by the likes of Barneys and Louis Vuitton. Though she's been a fashion world insider for more than 20 years (hitting the mainstream when first lady Michelle Obama wore her lemony confection to the 2009 inauguration), the female Toledo added Tony nominee to her résumé with this year's nod for her imaginative jazz age costumes for the musical After Midnight.
While the show won a statue for best choreography, Toledo -- who launched a collection with plus-size retailer Lane Bryant in March -- lost out to Linda Cho for her work on A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder. But from the looks of the fun had by both Toledos in the Tonys day diary they sent our way, you'd never know it.
Ruben snapped photos of his wife getting ready for the ceremony and documented the day -- from her beauty routine to the sleepy late-night cab ride home.
Next time she's nominated for an award, we'll be asking for an invite.

After a big fat breakfast (we heard that Tonys day was long, with no food breaks!), Isabel started with a homemade facial.
Accompanied by a bathtub nap. I was there too!
Trying out a good red lipstick to go with the red carpet.
Down the rabbit hole and in the elevator, into the street and up the block … Radio City, here we go!
Red carpet maneuvers and chatting with the press. Questions range from "designing for a first-time Broadway musical," "fashion tips for the never-ending recession," "what men should wear on formal outings," "designing for Mrs. Obama" and "musical vs. drama designs."
Bumping into friends like Adriane Lenox (wearing an Isabel Toledo coat with hot pants -- yes, it's hot out there!).
Celebrating Warren Carlyle's big win of the night for best choreography in After Midnight!
Some of our gorgeous castmembers from After Midnight take a dance break on [show producer] Scott Sanders' couch at his afterparty.
With [Broadway publicist] Rick Miramontez at the Carlyle for afterparty number two!
A little tipsy at the secret corner table at Rick's!
Finally homeward bound (before sunup). Me and wifey selfie!
