This Is Why Isabelle Huppert Wore Her Hair Down to the Oscars
The Best Actress nominee for 'Elle' kept it simple and chic.
This may be Elle actress Isabelle Huppert’s first Oscar nomination, but she appeared to be a seasoned pro throughout awards season, looking elegant and polished on every carpet. “Isabelle has that confidence and chic style of French women that is coveted by women worldwide,” says her hairstylist Marcus Francis. “She loves to keep her beauty look simple, timeless and cool, and wearing it down gives Isabelle all three of those elements.”
The actress has been wearing subtle versions of what Francis calls “sexy, effortless hair” throughout the season, and she didn’t want to deviate too far from that easy-glam image for the Academy Awards. What’s more, says the hairstylist, Huppert’s gleaming Champagne-colored Armani gown didn’t call for a complicated updo. “We all decided that to make it feel modern the hair should play opposite of the dress,” he says.
The hairstylist says he loves working with Huppert because she is sure about what works and what doesn’t, “what she loves and doesn’t love.” Her self-assuredness made it easy to collaborate on a look he says aligns with the trends of this awards season. To accomplish that cool, lived-in texture that still looks elegant, Francis used Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Volumizing Souffle Mousse ($5) and a R+Co. thickening spray before blow-drying, and then a combination of two hot tools: a flat iron and medium curling iron. In true French style, the products were kept to a minimum. A spritz of Suave Professionals Anti-Humidity Hairspray ($4) finished off Huppert’s effortless look.
