Israeli Hit Talent Show 'Rising Star' to Get Spanish Version
Spanish media group Atresmedia has acquired adaptation rights to the singing competition format, which ABC is bringing to the U.S.
Spanish media group Atresmedia has picked up local adaptation rights for Rising Star, the red-hot Israeli music competition show, following on the heels of deals with ITV for the U.K. and ABC in the U.S.
Rising Star is set to become the big global format launch of 2014 with several major territories planning their homegrown versions of the Keshet International show for next year. Regional operators that have joined the Rising Star chorus include RTL in Germany, France's M6, Sony Pictures-controlled group Toro Produzioni in Italy, Rossiyal in Russia, Nordisk for Scandinavia and Hungary's TV2.
The show, produced by Tedy Productions for Keshet Broadcasting in Israel, is billed as the first true merger of live television entertainment with second screen interactivity.
Viewers of the music competition show vote in real time for their favorite singers via a mobile app. If a performer secures the judges' votes and 70 percent of the viewers' votes, a screen rises in the studio, and the performer is revealed. Results are fully integrated into the on-air action.
In Israel, the only territory so far to broadcast Rising Star, the show has been a ratings hit with a 51.7 percent audience share and more than 9 million votes recorded through the app. That compares to Israel's total population of just under 8 million.
