Israeli Singing Format 'Rising Star' Adds Portugal to Global Chorus
Another day, another deal for hot Israeli singing format Rising Star.
The show, which has been flying off the shelves since Keshet International unveiled it to international TV executives at TV market MIPCOM in October, has closed another major territory, selling local rights to Portuguese commercial network TVI.
This follows recent deals with Brazil's Globo TV, ITV in the U.K. and Spain's Atresmedia.
ABC previously picked up U.S. rights for the show, in which viewers at home vote for their favorite singer live via a mobile app. The network is planning a summer debut for the series. Keshet DCP, the joint venture between Keshet Media Group's international arm and Dick Clark Productions' parent DCM Media, will produce the first 10-episode season.
Rising Star has also sold to Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Hungary and the Nordic territories. Most local language versions of the format will roll out next year.
The original Israeli version of Rising Star is produced by Tedy Productions for Keshet Broadcasting and has been a huge ratings and second-screen hit, delivering an average audience share of 46.6 percent for Keshet’s Channel 2 with more than 9 million votes cast via the Rising Star app.
