Italy eyes all-sports net
EmptyROME -- Italy's National Olympic Committee on Thursday unveiled plans to develop the country's first all-sports network.
The committee, known as CONI, said the channel, which is expected to be on-air by the end of the year, will focus on local sports.
So far, plans for the as-yet-unnamed network are sketchy. CONI said it is unclear whether the new network will air using traditional terrestrial technologies, newer digital technologies, or both. Budget estimates were not available.
"The desire is to increase visibility for Italian sports," a CONI spokesman said in a telephone interview. "A dedicated television channel is a great way to do it, and the rest of the details are under study."
