Italy's AMBI Pictures Launches Canadian Distribution Arm
The Italian production and finance group has hired veteran film releasing exec Anthony Cianciotta to lead the new outfit.
TORONTO - Italian production and finance group AMBI Pictures is launching a Canadian film distribution arm.
Veteran Canadian distributor Anthony Cianciotta is on board as senior vp of marketing and distribution, and Monika Bacardi, who heads AMBI with Andrea Iervolino, is honorary president.
Iervolino's AIC Movie and AMBI Canada have brought 2047: Sights of Death, a sci-fi actioner directed by Alessandro Capone and starring Stephen Baldwin and Danny Glover, for a world premiere at the Italian Contemporary Film Festival in Toronto on June 13.
"AMBI has had much success worldwide and I am personally excited to put down roots in Canada as the company expands," Iervolino said in a statement Friday.
AMBI Pictures earlier this year unveiled plans to handle sales of films it produces, starting with 2047: Sights of Death.
The Italian producer plans to finance and produce six to eight feature films annually.
Announced projects include the dramedy Tre Tocchi from Italian director Marco Risi (Fortapasc), and the romantic comedy Devil Make Care from Gabriela Tagliavini (Without Men).
Cianciotta earlier held senior posts at Twentieth-Century Fox Canada, exhibitor Cineplex Entertainment, and Alliance Films.
