Italy's 'Christmas' packs bags for Rio

Series has made more than $140 mil since 1999

ROME -- Filmauro's lucrative "Christmas" film franchise will head to Brazil this year, with a Dec. 19 release date scheduled for "Natale a Rio" (Christmas in Rio).

The slapstick comedy series is one of Italian cinema's most predictable money makers, earning more than 110 million euros ($140 million) since 1999, with locations that have included Christmas on the Nile, in India, in New York and on a cruise.

Among the series' mainstays is comic actor Christian De Sica, son of icon Italian director Vittorio De Sica.
