'Maleficent' tops the year-end chart

Hollywood movies account for all of this year's top 10 best-selling movies on iTunes in Russia.

Maleficent was named the year's top-selling movie, followed by The Other Woman and Noah, with new installments of RoboCop, Spider-Man and Rio also on the list.

At Russia's theatrical box office, Maleficent was the second-highest-grossing title of the year after Transformers: Age of Extinction, according to the database KinoPoisk, but only four of the top-grossing movies made iTunes' best-sellers list.

iTunes declined to comment on the fact that no Russian movie was among the top sellers.

Meanwhile, Oleg Stepchenko's fantasy thriller Viy is currently Russia's third-highest-grossing movie in theaters, with a box-office gross of $33.2 million.

iTunes wouldn't reveal any figures for total Russian sales or those of individual titles.

Since its launch in Russia in late 2012, iTunes has become one of the leading services for renting and selling movies online. Most local legitimate online video services operate on either the ad-sponsored or subscription model.

On iTunes, Maleficent is offered for rent at $1.84 (99 rubles) in HD quality and $1.28 (69 rubles) in SD quality and for sale at $6.49 (349 rubles) and $3.70 (199 rubles), respectively.
