Jack Black's Tenacious D Heading to SXSW
Jack Black is headed to Austin.
For the second year in a row, Black will hit the South by Southwest music festival to perform with his band Tenacious D. This year, Black will be promoting his new web series Ghost Ghirls at a viewing party and concert March 13 held at the Yahoo! space.
Ghost Ghirls, a comedic web series produced by Black's Electric Dynamite Productions and Shine America, follows two young female ghostbusters played by Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci. It will be distributed on Yahoo! Screen this spring.
“There is no better place to unleash the beast that is Ghost Ghirls on an unsuspecting audience," said Black in a statement. "Austin knows how to rock and how to party and how to marvel at the supernatural forces that inhabit our world. I'm so proud of this show, and I will be there with bells on to bask in the glory."
Black will guest star in an episode of the paranormal comedy, along with cameos by celebrities including Jake Johnson, Val Kilmer, Molly Shannon and Jason Schwartzman.
Ghost Ghirls was created by Jeremy Konner, Lund and Blasucci, who also serve as executive producers. Electric Dynamite's Black and Priyanka Mattoo also are executive producers. Konner (Funny or Die’s Drunk History) is directing the series.
Black is the lead vocalist for Tenacious D, which he founded in 1991 with fellow bandmate and lead guitarist Kyle Gass. Along with albums and concert tours, the group starred in the 1997-2000 HBO series Tenacious D: The Greatest Band on Earth and the 2006 comedy/musical feature Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny.
