Jeff Tremaine, who directed the mega-successful documentary-style Jackass movies, is gearing up make his narrative feature debut with Revenge of the Jocks, a Warner Bros. comedy being produced by Tapestry.
Jeff Baena, the scribe behind I Heart Huckabees, has been tapped to do a rewrite, giving the project -- first picked up in March 2009 -- a nice kickstart.
The script, originally written by Rami and Etan Cohen, turns the 1980s comedy Revenge of the Nerds on its head while updating it at the same time. Three men, once popular high school jocks with their glory days behind them, find themselves forced to adapt to a world run by the geek and nerd crowd, some of whom are only too eager to unleash their own tormenting on the new underdog class.
Peter Abrams, Robert L. Levy, Michael Schreiber are producing. Andrew Panay is also producing. Tremaine's shingle, Dickhouse Entertainment, will also be involved.
Sarah Schechter is overseeing for the studio.
Tremaine, repped by CAA, last directed Jackass 3D, the 2010 Johnny Knoxville prank movie that made $117 domestically on a budget of $20 million.
Baena, repped by WME, is working on an adaptation of A Moveable Feast, a indie adaptation of the Ernest Hemingway novel.
