Jackie Chan's Action Title 'Skiptrace' to be Co-Financed By Shanghai New Culture Media
Renny Harlin is directing the U.S.-China co-production
Shanghai New Culture Media Group will co-finance Skiptrace, an action adventure U.S.-China co-production directed by Renny Harlin and starring Jackie Chan, Johnny Knoxville and Fan Bingbing.
Shanghai New Culture Media announced that they would join China's Talent International Film Co and Dasym Entertainment at the American Film Market.
The story, based on an idea by Chan, centers on a good Hong Kong detective (Chan) whose niece (Fan Bingbing) gets into trouble with a crime syndicate run by a man the detective has been chasing for a decade. The cop is forced to track down the one person who can help save the niece -- a fast-talking American gambler (Knoxville) -- and bring him to Hong Kong after a trek across China.
Harlin previously directed Die Hard 2, Long Kiss Goodbye and this year’s Legend of Hercules, while Knoxville replaces Seann William Scott.
The movie is produced by Talent International, Dasym Media and Chan, along with Esmond Ren, Charlie Coker, Damien Saccani and David Gerson.
SNC’s Yang Zhenhua and Liu Xiaolin will join as executive producers, while Gao Qun of SNC and Wang Lifeng of Xing Xing will serve as co-executive producers.
SNC owns all the distribution rights outside of China and is currently selling off its North American distribution rights. Former Exclusive exec Alex Walton and Ken Kao’s Bloom is handling international sales on the film.
Exclusive Media was previously behind the movie but since its disintegration, parent company Investment Strategies B.V. has moved it to subsidiary Dasym.
