James Bond producers deny MGM bid

Sahara offers no comment on EON involvement

NEW DELHI -- Following reports that James Bond producer EON Productions was involved in the apparent bid for MGM Inc. by Indian conglom Sahara India Pariwar, London-based EON denied any involvement with the bid.

“EON Productions tonight confirmed they have never had any contact with Sahara India Pariwar and are in no way involved in the Sahara India Pariwar bid for MGM," EON  spokesperson Stephanie Wenborn said in a statement, as reported by Bloomberg late Monday.

When contacted by THR Tuesday, Sahara India Pariwar – headquartered in the central Indian city of Lucknow -- offered no comment on EON's statement.

Since reports started circulating about Sahara's bid for MGM, the company has only issued one statement which quoted Sahara's head of corporate communication Abhijit Sarkar stating Sunday, “On mutual interest, discussions are on, but it is too early to comment on the issue.”

On Monday, Bloomberg reported that EON – run by Barbara Broccoli and her stepbrother Michael G Wilson -- was involved in Sahara's reported bid for MGM.

Media reports speculated that Sahara had offered a $2 billion bid for MGM which is battling over $3.7 billion in debt for which it received a new extension until October 29.
