James Cameron spends birthday underwater
Director may make underwater feature before 'Avatar' sequelJames Cameron decided to celebrate his 56th birthday on Monday -- no, not in outer space -- deep under water in a move that could prepare him for another film project.
The "Avatar" director picked a submersible deep beneath Russia's Lake Baikal as the location for his birthday celebration, the Associated Press reported.
According to the report, the plan was for the director to be about 5,200 feet below the surface of the world's oldest and largest lake -- "unless it's bad weather, in which case I'll be getting drunk with the Russian crew in the port."
A longtime ocean enthusiast, Cameron said he is developing a 3D underwater camera and has plans for an underwater feature film that he might make before taking on an "Avatar" sequel.
The AP also quoted Cameron as saying he is building a submarine in Australia that will take him 36,000 feet underwater -- twice as deep as anyone has gone before.
