The fired FBI director's public testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday was a hot topic on Twitter.

James Comey hadn't even begun speaking before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday when politicians, Hollywood stars and other public figures began chiming in about the highly anticipated hearing on Twitter.

While Comey's hearing began at 10 a.m. ET, the Senators on the committee did all of the talking for the first 18 minutes, before Comey had even been sworn in, something that served as the focus of some of the first Hollywood-based tweets.

As the hearing went on, stars and public figures chimed in on specific things the former FBI director said and memorable exchanges with members of the committee while also drawing conclusions about the significance of Comey's comments.

Netflix's House of Cards, TBS' Full Frontal With Samantha Bee and Comedy Central's The Daily Show and @Midnight tweeted from the shows' official accounts. The Twitter accounts for several late-night shows were also particularly active during Comey's hearing.

Other frequent Tweeters from the entertainment community included George Takei, Ellen executive producer Andy Lassner, Bill O'Reilly, Katie Couric, John Cusack, Jenni Konner, Chuck Woolery, Ann Coulter, David Axelrod and Ana Gasteyer.

While President Donald Trump himself remained silent on Twitter throughout Comey's public testimony, his son Donald Trump Jr. sent out several posts defending his dad.
