The James Hotel Expands to Los Angeles
The West Coast outpost of the boutique brand marks West Hollywood’s first newly built hotel in almost three decades.
The Standard, Mondrian and other Sunset Strip hotels will have some competition coming in the near future. The James Hotel, a Chicago-based boutique chain-let with locations in Chicago, New York and Miami, will make its premiere West Coast presence on the corner of Sunset and La Cienega. The two-tower, 286-room hotel is expected to open in 2016.
CIM Group, the owner and developer of the two-block, mixed-use development and the largest commercial real estate owner in Hollywood, has selected The James -- frequented by the likes of Sofia Vergara, James Franco, Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana -- for the high-profile corner site. CIM also is developing two residential towers and approximately 40,000 square feet of retail space across the street from the future buildings on La Cienega.
The James hotels are known for a warm, organic take on modern interiors with lots of clever design details. At James New York, located in Soho, air plants in every room offer a nod to carbon offsetting, while complimentary bicycles and iPads loaded with customized dining and shopping guides are available from the concierge.
An architect on the project has yet to be announced.
