James Murdoch Among Speakers for First Indian TV Fest
Organized by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation, the two-day festival, which will launch in November in Goa, aims to establish an annual platform for the industry.
NEW DELHI – The first ever Indian TV Fest will be held from Nov. 2-3 in the western coastal state of Goa. The event is organized by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), the governing body for broadcasters in the country. The event is seen as an annual platform for the Indian and global broadcasting industry to network and exchange ideas through panel discussions and master classes.
According to an IBF announcement, some of the confirmed speakers include News Corp.'s James Murdoch, Walt Disney International chairman Andy Bird, Sony Corp of America CEO Michael Lynton along with leading Indian executives such as Zee and Essel Group chairman Subhash Chandra.
“The industry is big enough now to merit, create and sustain such a festival. We are a competitive industry, but the spirit of competitiveness is sometimes taken to an illogical extreme. We don't come together often enough to see how we can benefit the business that we are in and serve society, both of which are organically linked. During the festival, we can leave the competitive nature behind, and talk about the future and larger issues and goals that are essential for us,” said IBF president and Star India CEO Uday Shankar.
The third largest television market in the world after the US and China, the Indian broadcasting industry is currently worth over $ 6.6 billion with over 600 channels beaming down to about 150 million TV households.
