Rambling Reporter at NYFW: Jamie Chung Poses in Crop Top, Complains About Cold
On day five, Chung brought chattering teeth to the Alice + Olivia presentation, while Orlando Bloom busted his moves at the Purple bash.
You know it's a good party when no one's even paying attention to Orlando Bloom. At the Purple Fashion magazine bash at Chez Andre in the basement of the Standard Hotel East on Monday night, the actor made a sly entrance in a fedora hat with barely anyone noticing. Claiming a spot in the middle of the dance-floor, Bloom and about three friends danced for about six songs -- including Jay-Z and Beyonce's "Drunk in Love" -- with barely anyone recognizing the hatted actor. That's probably a good thing: Despite Bloom's acting skills on-screen, it looked like he could use a dance lesson or two. The actor also didn't appear to be with anyone romantically at the time. Also at the uber-exclusive bash were hosts Olivier Zahm and artist Andre Saraiva, fashion designers Johan Linderberg and Olivier Theyskens, Paris Hilton, actor and designer Waris Ahluwalia and DJ Chelsea Leyland.
Azealia Banks stirred up some controversy on Sunday when the singer tweeted to her 373,000 followers that she wouldn't be attending a fashion week party on Monday as advertised. "Sorry guys... Galore magazine lied. I'm not at whatever shindig is going down tonight," Banks tweeted, although the party wasn't happening until Monday, at Up&Down. "Don't know why my name is on the flyer. Have fun!! Xx." The singer was advertised as a "featured" guest along with Brooke Candy, the ATL Twins, Nervo and others. The lack of Banks, however, didn't stop Galore magazine's party from being packed (with a line forming halfway down 14th Street): Alexandra Richards and Hannah Bronfman deejayed the event, with guests including fashion week staples Scott Lipps, model Julie Henderson, Bronfman's boyfriend Brendan Fallis, Becka Diamond, the promised ATL Twins and more.
Actress Jamie Chung isn't letting the harsh New York weather get in the way of a photo op. At the Alice & Olivia presentation at the McKittrick Hotel on Monday, where half of the red carpet leading into the event was outdoors, Chung posed in a crop top and skirt. "I'm sooooo cold," she said, teeth chattering. When she finished having her picture taken, her flack handed Chung her jacket. Paris Hilton was seen complaining about the frigid temperatures as well. "I'm so cold, I think I'm going to cry," she said loudly after she posed with her sister, Nicky on the carpet, and sprinted inside to see pal Stacey Bendet's collection. But even the New Yorkers standing outside couldn't blame them: It was only 26 degrees at the time.
Prison chic is not the new black, according to Orange is the New Black actress Jackie Cruz. The actress said even out of her on-set attire, which consists of a khaki jumpsuit, she gets spotted, but "it's a little hard. We have the same face!" she laughed, about why people still recognize her despite her very different off-set look. "Actually, we wear no make-up on the set. Just eye-liner for me. We get recognized on the train, walking around." Added the TV star, who plays Flaca on the Netflix show, at the Alice & Olivia presentation: "Fashion is my thing too. I even try to bring it into Flaca. I put socks over my uniform. It's a little fashion for prison."
