Jamie Lee Curtis Bought Her Golden Globes Dress on Sale
It was a steal at 50 percent off.
Sometime around the Thanksgiving holiday in late November, a friend of Jamie Lee Curtis' gave her a subtle reminder. Because she's back on the small screen with a series regular role, playing the deliciously evil Dean Cathy Munsch on Fox's Scream Queens, the veteran actress would likely be plucked to present an award during Hollywood's busy awards season. It's just the way it goes around these parts.
But not only did Curtis get invited to the Golden Globes on Sunday, she received a nomination for best actress in a TV series comedy for her work. With a dress to find, Curtis knew exactly what she wanted to do: Call the Oscar de la Renta boutique on Melrose Place in West Hollywood.
"I had seen this dress, so I called the store and told them that I'd like this dress in a size 8," Curtis told THR on the red carpet Sunday afternoon. "They told me that it was on sale at 50 percent off. I'm probably the only person nominated who bought their own freakin' dress! But I'm proud to wear my own dress."
She might be the only nominee, but Bryce Dallas Howard revealed that she bought her own Jenny Packham dress too, from Neiman Marcus.
Back to Curtis: She was also proud of the fact that she paired the dress with Cathy Waterman earrings because "she's our friend and I like to represent her work." She continued: "Other than that, I own everything that I'm wearing, happily."
Accompanied by her 29-year-old daughter, Annie, 57-year-old Curtis delivered the last sentence with a smile, and then she proceeded down the red carpet to do an interview with a reporter standing next to THR's spot. That's when Curtis grabbed the fashion reporter's hand and gently placed it on her own backside to prove that she wasn't wearing underwear.
But if she had, no doubt she would've paid for that herself too.
