Japanese, Vietnamese Broadcasters to Co-Produce Historical Drama

“The Partner” will examine the relationship between a pioneer in the struggle for Vietnamese independence and a Japanese doctor.

TOKYO -- Japan’s Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc. (TBS) and state broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV) are jointly producing the TV drama series The Partner, based on the historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

The drama, "paints a vivid picture of how Japan, Vietnam and their citizens relate today in the world of business and through international marriages," according to TBS, centered round a Japanese businessman working in Vietnam.

The Partner will be made with a joint crew and cast, including Japan's Noriyuki Higashiyama and Vietnam's Pham Huynh Dong.

“It’s my hope that we can contribute to the growth of the relationship between our two countries by portraying in our drama the friendship that has historically existed between them,” said Higashiyama at a promotional event in Tokyo.

A day-and-date broadcast for the series is set for September this year in Japan and Vietnam.
