Japan's Hikari TV to Stream Via NTT
Mobile device users will be able to access streaming content and record programs at home.
TOKYO – The Hikari TV cable platform will begin streaming content to mobile devices from May, through the fiber-optic network of NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone,) as well as remotely record programs on home TV sets.
Users of Android smartphones, iPhones, iPads and computers, will be able to access programs for a monthly charge of 2.625 yen ($32) – though they will also have to become subscribers to NTT’s fiber optic network.
Hikari TV, which is operated by NTT Plala, and is a group company of former national telephone carrier NTT, has around 1.3 million subscribers.
