Jared Leto, Ellen Page Named 'Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities'
Jared Leto and Ellen Page have been named 2014's "Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities" by the animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA said their "youthful energy" was what gave them the edge over the other nominees.
Leto, who won an Oscar earlier this year for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, beat out such famous faces as Samuel L. Jackson, Woody Harrelson, Juanes, Morrissey, Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Brand, Darren Aronofsky, Ricky Martin, Peter Dinklage and Cory Booker.
Page, herself an Oscar nominee for 2007's Juno, prevailed over Sarah Silverman, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Kate Mara, Maggie Q, Edie Falco, Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande, Christie Brinkley, Jessica Pare and Carrie Underwood, among others.
"Jared Leto has been vegetarian since he was a teenager, and he switched to a vegan lifestyle just a few years later after learning about the presence of pus in dairy products," PETA wrote on its website of the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman. "The benefits of his vegan eating sure do show! Jared is 42 years old and arguably hasn't aged in 20 years!"
PETA wrote of Page, who most recently starred in X-Men: Days of Future Past: "Bursting onto the scene in 2007′s hit movie Juno, then-20-year-old Ellen Page was as fresh-faced as one could be. Seven years later, she has remained just as radiant."
Previous winners of PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity contest include Kristen Bell, Harrelson, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Brand, Olivia Wilde, Underwood, Prince, Natalie Portman, Shania Twain, Leona Lewis, Andre 3000, Tobey Maguire and Alicia Silverstone.
