Jason Mraz tapped for songwriter award

Singer to receive Hal David Starlight honor in June

Jason Mraz will receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame 40th-anniversary gala June 18 at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.

Mraz has released such albums as "Waiting for My Rocket to Come," "Mr. A-Z" and "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things," which earned three Grammy nominations, including song of the year for "I'm Yours."

Created in 2004, the Hal David Starlight Award was renamed in honor of the SHOF chairman for his longtime support of young songwriters. Award recipients are songwriters who are at an apex in their careers and are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs.
