Jay Z, Beyonce, BuzzFeed Net Webby Award Nominations
The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences has announced the nominees for the 18th annual Webby Awards.
The list runs the gamut from celebrities such as Jay Z and Beyonce to social news website BuzzFeed and popular mobile game QuizUp. The top nominees include Vice Media with 11 nominations; the New York Times with 10 nominations; and Google, BBC and PBS with nine nominations each.
The Hollywood Reporter is nominated in the entertainment field of the online film and video category for its THR Roundtables series. It is also among the honorees in the web magazine category.
"This year's nominees really start to show the promise of a connected society, where our social interactions help shape and enable so much of our daily life," said Webby Awards executive director David-Michel Davies. "We are excited to share these outstanding works with the world and see which ones the public will choose as Webby winners."
The IADAS received more than 12,000 entries. Members -- including Trigger Street Productions' Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti -- handed out nominations to 8 percent of those entries.
The public has until April 24 to vote. Winners will be announced on April 29 and feted on May 19 at a special event hosted by Patton Oswalt at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
