Jay-Z Hits 1 Million Followers on Twitter
It comes at an appropriate time as his collaboration with Kanye West, “Watch the Throne,” is released.
Jay-Z has hit 1 million followers on Twitter.
But he's more than 2 million behind Watch the Throne collaborator Kanye West, who has more than 3 million on the social media website. Teen sensation Justin Bieber has nearly 11.7 million followers and reality personality Kim Kardashian has about 8.8 million. The one that trumps them all, however, is Lady Gaga, who has a loyal following of more than 12.4 million.
President Barack Obama trails behind Lady Gaga and Bieber, at least on Twitter, with nearly 9.6 million.
It's appropriate timing for Jay-Z as his latest project with West, hit iTunes this past weekend and so far, fans and critics have reacted favorably to the full-length album. Beyonce, RZA and Q-TIp are among the contributors on the collaboration.
A user on Twitter wrote, " 'Watch the Throne' is an instant classic! nobody can tell me different."
USA Today's Steve Jones praised the album, writing, "While they both display their characteristic swagger and dabble in materialism, they also ruminate on religion, poverty, crime, loss and the price of success."
Hollywood was also saying positive things about Watch the Throne. The Roots' Questlove said, "im getting a rush/kick outta everyone in the twittersphere weighing in on #WTT," but did say that he wouldn't call the album a classic just yet.
Aziz Ansari warned his followers on Twitter: "If you aren't a fan of tweets quoting Watch the Throne lyrics, you may want to unfollow me."
Last week, Jay-Z downplayed reports that there was tension with West during a radio interview with New York's Hot 97. "Kanye's my brother," he said, before admitting, "Yes we get on each other's nerves. That's part of pushing each other. ... People don't like to be pushed. It's annoying. ... So of course there are times when we're in the studio, we're yelling, but that's about it."
