Jay Z, Spike Lee, Billy Crystal Tip Their Hats to Derek Jeter in Nike Ad (Video)
New York's finest are tipping their hats to Derek Jeter.
In a new ad for a Re2pect collection of products from Nike's Jordan Brand, Jay Z, Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, Phil Jackson, Billy Crystal and Spike Lee pay tribute to the Yankee shortstop, as do the city's police officers, firefighters and fans. Even a few Red Sox and Mets players offer a nod to their exiting colleague.
Jeter announced in February that his 20th season would be his last. "I will remember it all: the cheers, the boos, every win, every loss, all the plane trips, the bus rides, the clubhouses, the walks through the tunnel and every drive to and from the Bronx. I have achieved almost every personal and professional goal I have set. I have gotten the very most out of my life playing baseball, and I have absolutely no regrets," he wrote in a 15-paragraph letter on Facebook at the time.
After being drafted by the Yankees in 1992 out of high school, he joined the major leagues in 1995 and has since won five World Series championships. He's been named MVP in 2000 and has been a member of 13 MLB All-Star teams.
In 1999, Jeter became the first Jordan Brand-endorsed baseball player and has 12 signature cleats with the company, second only to Jordan.
The Re2pect TV ad will debut Tuesday night during Jeter's 14th and final All-Star Game in Minnesota.
