RLJ Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights to the highly anticipated Kickboxer: Vengance, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

John Stockwell directed the film that was co-written by Dimitri Logothetis and Jim McGrath; it stars Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista, as well as Alain Moussi, Gina Carano and Georges St-Pierre.

The film is an update on 1989's Kickboxer, and follows the story of a young man who travels to Thailand to avenge the death of his brother.

Nicholas Celozzi, Ted Field, Allen Knudson, Samuel Cory Timpson and Rob Hickman produced the film.

“Fans of Jean Claude Van Damme have been waiting for a long time for this reboot of the Kickboxer franchise,” said Mark Ward, RLJ Entertainment’s chief acquisitions officer. “The film delivers more action and an amazing ensemble of fighters from Dave Bautista to George St-Pierre to Cain Velasquez and Gina Carano. Fans will not be disappointed.”

RLJE plans to release Kickboxer: Vengance  in theaters and On Demand later this year.
