Jeff Bridges to Star in 'The Emperor's Children' for Imagine Entertainment (Exclusive)
Lake Bell is directing the adaptation of the Claire Messud best-seller.
Jeff Bridges is attached to star in The Emperor's Children, the adaptation of Claire Messud's best-selling novel that will be directed by Lake Bell.
Imagine Entertainment is developing and producing the prestige project, which is being produced by Imagine's Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins. The company's Anna Culp will exec produce.
Noah Baumbach wrote the script, which is described as a quintessential New York narrative as it tells the abstruse life of a legendary journalist and liberal opinion-maker named Murray Thwaite, exposing the ambition and pride of his family and friends, and his entanglement with his daughter's best friend, all in the days leading up to 9/11.
Bridges will play Thwaite.
The producers are planning a shoot later this year as they put the cast together.
UTA and CAA are repping the film rights.
For Bridges, the project represents a move back to drama after working in the fantasy and sci-fi fields. The Seventh Son, The Giver and R.I.P.D. are among his recent credits. Prior to that, he was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in True Grit and won an Oscar for his work in Crazy Heart.
He is repped by CAA, MGMT Entertainment and Hirsch Wallerstein.
Bell is repped by UTA.
