Richard Jenkins is joining Julia Roberts in "Eat, Pray, Love," Columbia's adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir. Ryan Murphy is directing, with Plan B and Red Om Films producing.

The script, written by Murphy, centers on a woman (Roberts) who, after a painful divorce, sets out on a journey of self- discovery around the world.

Jenkins plays a Texan with a dark past who is also on a spiritual journey. He meets Roberts' character at an Indian ashram.

Columbia picked up the project in February out of turnaround from Paramount.

The majority of the cast is expected to reflect the book's international flavor; the story is set mostly in Italy, India and Bali.

Gersh-repped Jenkins has been making the most of his Oscar-nominated turn in last year's "The Visitor," with "Love" marking his third project of 2009. He previously signed on for Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's horror project "Cabin in the Woods" and is now shooting "Rum Diary," an adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel that stars Johnny Depp. (partialdiff)
