Jennifer Berman Joins Roadside Attractions
Jennifer Berman has joined Roadside Attractions as senior vp acquisitions, co-productions and development as the company readies for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival with an eye toward becoming more involved in production. Berman will spearhead the acquisition, development and production of feature film projects, both as finished films and at script stage, the company announced today.
Roadside first ventured into production with last year’s All Is Lost, written and directed by J.C. Chandor and starring Robert Redford, which it co-produced with Lionsgate, FilmNation and Universal, with Roadside’s co-presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff serving as exec producers on the film.
“Jennifer has outstanding credits as both an executive and producer and will be a valuable asset to Roadside as well as to our partners at Lionsgate and the many producers who entrust us with their films,” Cohen and d’Arbeloff said in a statement. “With Roadside’s successful track record over the past decade in finished-film acquisitions, together we can provide a valuable perspective on the U.S. market on films at an earlier stage.”
Berman began her career in 1994 at Miramax Films in New York, working her way up from an assistant to senior vp production during her 11 years at Miramax. She was an executive producer on Chicago and Shall We Dance. She also founded a theater division with Harvey Weinstein and managed Weinstein’s involvement in Broadway and West End Theater, which included productions such as Mel Brooks’ The Producers, Sam Mendes’ Gypsy and Baz Luhrmann’s La Boheme. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2004, she produced the first three seasons of Miramax and Bravo’s Project Runway.
In 2005, Berman joined Warners-based De Line Pictures as executive vp. In 2007, she segued to Larry Shuman's The Shuman Company to oversee its television production arm. Berman later spent a year consulting for the film and television division of Ira Glass' This American Life. Since 2011, she has worked at Mandalay Vision as senior vp production, most recently serving as the executive in charge of production on Dark Vision, which Mandalay Vision produced with Exclusive Media financing.
