Jennifer Lopez to Perform at World Cup, Denies Cancellation Rumors
Jennifer Lopez has announced she will perform at the World Cup opening ceremony in Brazil Thursday, despite widely reported rumors suggesting she had pulled out.
Earlier this week, FIFA said the singer wouldn't be attending the ceremony as planned because of unspecified "production issues."
Lopez denied that late Tuesday, telling the Associated Press that she was about to board a flight to Brazil.
"People get nervous, and I think it was a little bit premature to announce anything," she said.
Before kickoff between Brazil and Croatia at the World Cup opener in Sao Paulo Thursday, Lopez will perform "We Are One (Ole Ola)" with Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte.
"I can't take credit for this. This was one of Pitbull's call-ins," Lopez said. "He had this record, and he's like, 'I think this record could be great for the World Cup -- will you do it with me?' And I go, 'Yeah, of course.'
"I'm so lucky that he gave me the opportunity," she added.
