Jennifer Lopez in TLC's sights
Net's slate includes series about her lifeNEW YORK -- New mom Jennifer Lopez and husband-wife actor-producers Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are partnering with TLC for new unscripted series.
Lopez will executive produce and star in a documentary series about her life as an actress and singer, new mother of twins and entrepreneur launching a fragrance line.
"I think it'll be something very exciting," Lopez said Wednesday at the Discovery Networks' upfront presentation in Manhattan.
TLC has inked an overall deal with Ripa and Consuelos, which gives the cable network first-look rights to all unscripted projects the duo develops through their Milojo Prods.
TLC president Angela Shapiro-Mathes, former head of ABC Daytime and an entrepreneur who launched Soap Opera Digest magazine and Soap Opera Update, first got to know the acting couple when they started on ABC's soap "All My Children" in the early '90s.
Under the deal, Ripa, whose day job is co-host of ABC's "Live With Regis and Kelly," also will host a series for TLC.
Lopez, Ripa and Consuelos were surprise guests at Discovery's presentation, which was led off by president and CEO David Zaslav.
"I think we've found our rhythm," he said, outlining the company's accomplishments in the past year that included a heavy programming investment across all its platforms as well as the 2009 launch of OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Winfrey, appearing via video, gave media buyers a glimpse of what the new channel will be. Winfrey said it would have a viewer focus along the lines of what she has been trying to do with her signature syndicated talk show.
Launching in June is Planet Green, the former Discovery Home channel that will focus exclusively on green living. The network said ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff will host an ABC News-produced weekly series on environmental issues. It is set to premiere in July.
