Jennifer Lopez's Famous Grammys Dress Helped Spawn Google Images

The fashion world wasn't the only one that took notice of that sheer Versace number.

When she stepped out in the now infamous down-to-there Versace dress at the 2000 Grammys, Jennifer Lopez made quite the impression. In fact, the singer and her green tropical gown made such an impression that she was the most searched for query of Google's then-young life.

Ever striving to give the people what they want, the Google co-founders took notice of the sudden surge of searches and worked to provide an easier way for people to see what all the fuss was about surrounding the silk chiffon number. In an article for Project Syndicate, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt explained, "At the time, [the dress] was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J­. Lo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born."
