Jenny Packham may be known for her bedazzling, beaded dresses on the runway, but if she weren't a designer, she'd choose a rather, uh, exotic career. "[I'd be a] burlesque dancer," Packham said jokingly during an intimate roundtable with TRESemme fashion week hairstylist Jeanie Syfu and TRESemme celebrity hairstylist John D. last week. She later explained: "Not right now [though]. In another life, a fantasy life."
The British designer -- who works closely with Kate Middleton and has dressed Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Banks and Helen Mirren, among many other famous faces -- visited L.A. to show her spring 2014 collection to editors and celebrity stylists, as well as host her first-ever trunk show at Neiman Marcus on Thursday.
After the discussion, we chatted with Packham and learned that she's a fan of Jesse Pinkman, among other discoveries.
1. She's a vintage lover.
Although Packham didn't have enough time to explore L.A. during her most recent visit (save a trip to the Hollywood Museum), she would have wanted to explore her favorite stores. "Oh, I love all the vintage shops here like Decades and The Way She Wore -- it's just fantastic," said Packham.
2. Tilda Swinton is her girl.
Packham has dressed a number of celebrities in one of her gorgeous gowns, but who else would she love to see hit the red carpet in one of her designs? Cate Blanchett, because "I think she's just a complete style icon and so beautiful," says the designer, who had the chance to meet her at this year's Golden Globes. She also added Carey Mulligan ("She's such a talent") and Tilda Swinton ("Because I know she never will. She's a bit too avant garde for us, but that's why I love her.") on her celebrities-to-dress wish list.
3. 2013 marked her first trip to the Golden Globes.
Her last trip to L.A. was in January, and during her visit, she attended the Golden Globes for the first time. "For me, it was just pure work. Obviously you see all the pictures of celebrities wearing your dresses but there are all these other people there," Packham recalled of her first awards show experience. "It was so great to see all these people dress up in that really glamorous way."
4. She's a Breaking Bad fan.
"I've been watching all winter," she said. And it just so happened that while she was having dinner on Thursday at Chateau Marmont, she spotted Aaron Paul walking into the restaurant. Asked whether or not she went up to him, the designer humbly responded: "Oh no, I'm not one of those people. I left him alone."
