Jeonju Festival to Launch For-Profit Distributor
New Distrib Will Focus on Indie Films for Art House Venues
SEOUL – The Jeonju International Film Festival will start a for-profit business to distribute independent films for local theaters, according to the festival organizer.
Jeonju, a film festival devoted to digital and alternative films, said it will buy license rights of competitive indie films and distribute them to art house cinemas and multiplexes around the country. The plan was adopted by the festival organizers to “strengthen the festival’s image and provide funding for the festival. The business will include selling film licenses to TV, cable, IPTV and DVD.
As their first project, Jeonju has bought the rights to The Silence Before Bach by a Spanish master Pere Portabella and will distribute it to CGV and an indie cinema in Jeonju.
