Jerry Seinfeld Responds to Donald Trump: He's 'God's Gift to Comedy' (Video)
"I have no problem with him. I just can't be with him," says Seinfeld, who angered Trump when he pulled out of his son's charity event.
Jerry Seinfeld has responded to Donald Trump's recent attack over the actor-comedian's recent decision to pull out of his son's charity event.
"Let me say this about Donald Trump. I love Donald Trump, all comedians love Donald Trump," Seinfeld told Extra. "If God gave comedians the power to invent people, the first person we would invent is Donald Trump. ... God's gift to comedy."
Seinfeld had signed on for a Sept. 13 Eric Trump Foundation benefit aiding the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. But his manager said the comic has become “increasingly uncomfortable” with Trump’s recent questioning of President Obama’s citizenship so he "has respectfully withdrawn from the event."
Trump -- a potential contender for the Republican presidential nomination -- then fired back at Seinfeld, writing a nasty letter that was published in the New York Post.
"What I do feel badly about is that I agreed to do, and did, your failed show, The Marriage Ref, even though I thought it was absolutely terrible," Trump wrote. "Despite its poor ratings, I didn't cancel on you like you canceled on my son and St. Jude. I only wish I did."
Seinfeld told Extra that he had made a donation to St. Jude.
As for Trump: "I have no problem with him. I just can't be with him."
Several others stars have spoken out against Trump, who has questioned not only Obama's birth certificate but also whether his grades were good enough to earn him admission into Harvard Law School. Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg and Bob Schieffer are among those who also have criticized the real estate mogul and Celebrity Apprentice star.
